Artist Statement
Lugansk

My name is Oksana Zhornichenko. I live in Luhansk.
I started painting with oils at 50.
I don't have any formal art training; I just paint as best I can.
I've always dreamed of drawing. As a child, I couldn't attend art school. Then I thought it was too late.
At 50, I thought now was the time to start.
Well, I don't know how to do anything—what's the big deal? So I just started drawing.
Now I'm 54, and I've been drawing every day for five years now, at least something.
Painting has become my antidepressant.
Life around me is too gray, which is probably why I use such bright colors in my paintings.
